CARES Preservation Program

The CARES Fish Preservation Program promotes conservation of threatened and endangered species, encouraging aquarists to contribute by maintaining CARES Species in their fishrooms and home aquariums. By maintaining these species with particular focus on preserving a healthy gene pool and preventing hybridization, we can help preserve CARES species.

AquaristSpecies.net promotes CARES species by emphasizing the species listed on the CARES Priority List and integrating CARES species into our hosted club BAP Programs which include a CARES Multiplier to increase recognition for breeding CARES species, and a long term Maintenance Multiplier to recognize CARES species maintenance and encourage aquarists to keep and breed CARES species longer term.

For those working to maintain a CARES species, the Species Maintenance Log feature enables you to collaborate with fellow hobbyists and post notes and photos documenting your maintenance journey. Share your experiences - what works, what doesn't - and encourage others to keep CARES species. See the current list of Species Maintenance Logs.

AquaristSpecies.net is proud to partner with the CARES Preservation Program to help aquarists find and distribute CARES species by providing a community where members can contact one another and learn from aquarist species posts which share information on breeding and raising fry.
