Description

https://victoriabasincichlids.org/species
A littoral scraper of the Mwanza and Speke Gulfs. Feeds on algae, diatoms, and biofilm scraped from reeds, papyrus, shoreline vegetation, and scattered rock formations. In some localities, such as the rocky island in northern Speke Gulf, it feeds among leaf litter beneath overhanging trees. In others, such as Nansio Bay, it moves through inshore margins where light and substrate allow algae to grow. Not a rock-obligate species in the mbuna sense; it exploits a range of hard and semi-hard substrates in the shallow littoral.
