Endemic to the Kunene River along the Namibia–Angola border, Thoracochromis buysi is found in the rugged, fast-flowing system that is defined by rocky channels, sandy stretches and seasonal surges. It is a maternal mouthbrooder and feeds on insect larvae, small invertebrates and drifting organic matter.
