CARES Species Profile:  Betta splendens

Description

Betta splendens is native to the Mekong River Basin in Thailand. It is a bubblenester that is very tolerant of water conditions but prefers soft acidic water with temperatures in the high 70s to low 80s F. Pairs can be housed in a 10 gallon tank, while groups should be housed in a 30 gallon tank or larger. Pairs should be given cover such as caves and plants.

Note: Most 'Betta spendens' found in the hobby are line bred hybrids. CARES Registrations are for true WILD TYPE only.
