Betta schalleri is native to Banka Island in Indonesia. It is found in forest swamps, peat swamps, and hill streams. It is a paternal mouthbrooder that incubates from 8 to 10 days. Pairs can be housed in a 10 gallon tank, while groups should be housed in a 30 gallon tank or larger. Pairs should be given cover such as caves and plants. Water conditions not critical and should be kept at temperatures in the mid 70s F.
