Description

Betta rubra is native to a small region on the western shore of Sumatra in Indonesia. It is a paternal mouthbrooder that originates from blackwater environments and should have soft acidic water that is well filtered. They should be kept at temperatures that are cool to mid 70s F. Pairs can be housed in a 20 gallon tank, while groups should be housed in a 30 gallon tank or larger. Pairs should be given cover such as caves and plants. The male incubates from 12 to 17 days with 15 days being very consistent.
