Betta pinguis is native to the island of Borneo, inhabiting a very small region in Indonesia. It is a blackwater paternal mouthbrooder that incubates from 10 to 14 days however it can hold up to 3 weeks. Water conditions not critical but it prefers softer acidic water. Pairs can be housed in a 20 gallon tank, while groups should be housed in a 55 gallon tank or larger. Pairs should be given cover such as caves and plants.
