Betta patoti is native to the island of Borneo and occurs in a very small range on the eastern side in the Kalimantan Timur region of Indonesia. It is a paternal mouthbrooder that incubates from 12 to 17 days with 14 days being very consistent. While native to blackwater habitats, it is adaptable to varied water chemistry and in the aquarium it is best kept in softer acidic water. Pairs can be housed in a 20 gallon tank, while groups should be housed in a 55 gallon tank or larger. Pairs should be given cover such as caves and plants.
