Native to the Lower Rio Lermaand and Upper Rio Ameca basins in Mexico, Zoogoneticus purhepechus is a livebearer inhabiting streams, rivers and springs. It prefers cool to warm, hard, slow-moving water. This is a carnivore, feeding on primarily protein such as live baby brine shrimp, freeze-dried daphnia and some bloodworms. However, plant material such as spirulina algae, blanched vegetables, and nori can be added if accepted.
