Common Name: Black Splitfin
Native to the Upper Ameca, Armeria, Coahuayana, Rio Grande de Santiago and adjacent endorheic basins in Mexico, Xenotoca melanosoma is a livebearer inhabiting streams, rivers, lakes and springs. It prefers cool to warm, hard, slow-moving water. This is an omnivore with a diet that consists of plant material and small amounts of protein, leaning more to plant than protein. Examples of foods to feed include spirulina algae, blanched vegetables, nori, live baby brine shrimp and freeze-dried daphnia.
