Description

Native to the Rio Lerma, Morelia, Patzcuaro, Zirahuen and Upper Panuco basins in Mexico, Alloophorus robustus is an ambush predator inhabiting streams, rivers and lakes. It prefers cool to warm, hard water. This is an omnivore with a diet that consists of vegetables and protein. It requires a little more protein and actually eats small fish and is very aggressive. Examples of foods to feed include spirulina algae, blanched vegetables, nori, live baby brine shrimp, freeze-dried daphnia and some occasional bloodworms.
